How is Invisalign Made: The Process and Requirements
For patients seeking dental alignment treatments, Invisalign has grown as a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. Many prefer it because it’s more comfortable, easier to clean, and a lot less noticeable.
Invisalign, as opposed to traditional metal braces, uses clear aligners made of medical-grade plastic, eliminating the need for wires or brackets to be attached to the teeth. But have you ever thought about how these aligners are made?
In this post, we talk more about how Invisalign aligners are produced. Let’s get to it.
Creating the Digital Impression of Your Teeth
The first step in creating Invisalign aligners is to take a digital impression of the patient’s teeth, following an initial consultation. This is done either through a digital scanner or traditional dental impressions.
The new technology makes it easier to identify the structure of a patient’s teeth and how the aligner shall be created.
Treatment Planning and Mapping
Once the impression of the patient’s teeth is taken, their digital files are uploaded to the computer-aided design (CAD) software. It’s here that highly trained orthodontic technicians review and specify the patient’s treatment.
Drawing on extensive documentation of the case, the orthodontists will assess the number of aligners required to achieve the patient’s desired results, the shape of the teeth, and the bite’s specific needs.
The technicians then ensure that the computer model develops the required tooth movement and bite in each stage.
Manufacturing the Aligners
Based on the treatment plan and mapping developed by the orthodontic team, the aligners are created using medical-grade, patent plastic.
These aligners are designed and built to ensure optimal flexibility to move your teeth with minimal discomfort.
Inspecting the Products
Experienced engineers verify that every Invisalign aligner intended for use in the patient’s treatment meets the required standards and conforms to the specifics of the CAD software.
Reprinting and Fine Tuning
The aligners are sent to the dental office once they’re ready, and the next step is fitting with the patients.
Sometimes, aligners may not fit accurately due to tooth movement changes during the treatment period. The Invisalign manufacturers account for this scenario.
They will reprint aligners accordingly to ensure a perfect fit and provide accurate adjustments to continue the patient’s treatment plan.
Personalized Teeth Aligners
Due to the advancement in technology, Invisalign has become a popular alternative to traditional wire braces.
Patients can now receive personalized teeth alignments that meet their specific needs, with the comfort and convenience of clear and virtually invisible aligners. The Invisalign manufacturing process has revolutionized the orthodontic industry and made traditional braces a thing of the past.
If you have questions about Invisalign or would like to get started with this treatment option, consult with an orthodontist to determine if Invisalign is right for you.
