Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear, but they aren’t the right choice for everyone.
Here at Orthodontic Smile Studio in Kitchener, ON, we see patients of all ages. Both children and adults may have issues with how their teeth align. At our office, we customize treatment plans to ensure that solutions address your specific concerns.
Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to straighten the teeth. If your child is starting to feel conscious about the appearance of their smile or if you’re worried about their bite, we recommend coming in for a smile assessment.
Can children use Invisalign?
Invisalign can be applicable for different age groups. However, there are several factors that we need to consider to see if it’s the right option for you or your child.
The clear plastic aligners are removable. You can take them out when you’re eating or brushing your teeth. But you need to put them back on right after. Forgetting, missing, or breaking your aligners may delay your treatment.
Your commitment to the procedure can impact its success. This is also one reason why dentists or orthodontists don’t usually recommend Invisalign to very young children. They may not be as cooperative or responsible as older children or adults.
Children may end up removing their aligners often and may be unwilling to wear them again. This increases the risk of the aligners getting lost or broken. Children are also usually less concerned about their appearance as opposed to teens and adults.
During comprehensive examinations, your dentist can check whether your child is a good candidate for any orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign for teens and adults
Discipline is a huge factor in achieving treatment success for Invisalign.
Close coordination with the dental team and you as the guardian or parent is crucial to ensure that the treatment stays on track.
Addressing dental problems as early as possible is good, but we need to see if your child is motivated and ready for the treatment.
So, can both adults and kids use Invisalign?
The age limitation for Invisalign varies. Adults love it as it’s discreet, and this idea can also appeal to teens who are starting to pay more attention to their appearance.
